What is a domain name?
A domain name is part of the Domain Name System (or DNS) which is a system for naming internet addresses to make them user friendly. Every website sits on a hosting server which has an address which is made up or a more technical reference. The domain name is set to point to the technical reference of the site so that when you type in that domain you see the user friendly name for the site.
A domain name is made up of different sections.
The 'top level domain" is to the right of the domain and is the com or com.au part of the domain.
The 'mid level domian' is the middle part of the domain, such as mitchellcreative.
The machine name of the domain is the left part such as www
Each section of a domain is separated by a dot.
